Global Goals: Dominican Republic
Eradication of generational poverty and gender equality—two of the United Nation’s sustainable development goals—are the focus of Global Goals: Dominican Republic. In this service-learning program, students will learn about the fundamentals of community outreach initiatives, gender empowerment, and Dominican culture. Students will help leverage the unique potential of adolescent girls to end poverty for themselves, their families, their communities, their countries, and the world. We will work closely with the nonprofit Mariposa Foundation, which is leading the charge on the island’s North Coast by providing girls with specific, powerful, and relevant resources. Knowledge of Spanish is not required.

Students chosen to go on the trip will be required to participate in a series of orientation meetings and discussions in the spring term and attend sessions organized by the Tang Institute for all students participating in Learning in the World programs.
