Summer Session & Outreach

Phillips Academy offers several outstanding educational opportunities for U.S. and international students as well as powerful learning and professional growth opportunities for teachers from across the United States and around the world.

Summer Session

Phillips Academy’s Summer Session is the nation’s premier summer academic enrichment program for helping high school students achieve their educational goals. This five-week boarding and day school experience, held on Phillips Academy’s picturesque 500-acre campus, immerses approximately 650 students in a welcoming and diverse educational community. Students who are entering grades 8–12 undertake challenging coursework, learn from instructors and peers, and are immersed in a fun pre-college experience. Learn More >>

Outreach Programs

Phillips Academy offers outreach programs that benefit students and teachers and support the Academy’s mission to serve “youth from every quarter.”

Mathematics & Science for Minority Students

A three-summer residential program held on the Phillips Academy campus, (MS)2 provides science, math, and English enrichment as well as college counseling for talented and economically disadvantaged Latino, African American, and Native American students. The program challenges students intellectually and exposes them to peers and educators with diverse backgrounds, life experiences, and aspirations. This competitive and rigorous program is free of charge for all students selected. Students are admitted as rising 9th-graders. Learn More >>

PALS

With the support of Phillips Academy and Andover High School student volunteers, PALS provides summer and school-year educational and mentoring support for 7th- and 8th-graders from low-income families in nearby Lawrence, Massachusetts. The two-year program is held on the Phillips Academy campus and at the Parthum Middle School in Lawrence. Learn More >>

Andover Bread Loaf

ABL teaches, inspires, and empowers student writers of all ages and works with public and private school teachers to enhance the teaching and learning of writing. Workshops—typically held at Phillips Academy or in nearby Lawrence, Mass.—have served as catalysts for educational renewal in countless classrooms, schools, and communities in the United States and abroad. Institute for Recruitment of Teachers

By assisting talented college students in the graduate school application process and helping to locate scholarship opportunities, the IRT seeks to bring more diversity to the nation’s teaching faculties. Of the approximately 130 IRT fellows chosen each year, 30 participate in an intense summer program on the Phillips Academy campus. Learn More >>
