Applying to Summer Session

The Andover Summer application will open for summer 2023 in early December.

How To Apply

Andover Summer is a selective program, offering admission to talented, motivated youth from all over the world. Each year we received several thousand inquiries, and we use the application to identify those students who are most eager for - and best equipped to handle the challenges of - an Andover academic experience.

The Andover Summer application - and that of our online alternative, eSummer at Phillips Academy - will open in December to all applicants.

You can expect to work for ~3-5 hours on your online application for admission to the on-campus Andover Summer program. The application includes:

  • Personal, Family, and School Information
  • Short answer & essay questions
  • Two Recommendations (sent electronically to the teacher(s) of your choice and your school guidance counselor or administrator)
  • Transcript
  • Writing Sample* (ELL program applicants only)

Upon submission of your application you will receive email confirmation from our office.

Completing the application

Applications are considered for review once all required letters of recommendation, transcripts, essays and other components are complete. Applicants must also submit the $75 application fee. You may check the status of your application in the Applicant Profile section here.

Decisions and Enrollment

Applications are accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis, beginning in December. Students can expect to receive a decision within 7-10 business days after submitting a completed application. Our most popular courses and programs begin to fill in February each year, and our admission process typically closes in late March/early April. At that time, any remaining completed applications will be considered for our waitlist.

Upon acceptance, applicants will have 2 weeks to complete the enrollment process, at which point enrolled students may begin selecting courses and preparing for the summer.

Apply Now

In 2023, Andover Summer will continue to offer both our traditional Summer Session program - a five-week residential experience - as well as our online eSummer program.

If you feel ready to take on an academically rigorous summer while building relationships that will last a lifetime, we encourage you to apply to either our in-person or online programs. Students entering the seventh through 12th grades are eligible for consideration. The admission committee will review applications on a rolling basis and is seeking students with demonstrated academic success, positive community engagement, and a sense of adventure.
