Andover Summer Admission

After a wonderful summer of remote learning, we are now shifting our focus to the planning of summer 2021.

Given the uncertainty around the safety and feasibility of on-campus programming in the summer of 2021, we are currently planning for both on-campus and remote programming. We expect to be able to offer both our traditional Andover Summer program - a five-week residential experience - as well as our online eSummer program.

If you feel ready to take on an academically rigorous summer while building relationships that will last a lifetime, we encourage you to apply to either our in-person or online programs. Students entering the seventh through 12th grades are eligible for consideration. The admission committee will review applications on a rolling basis and is seeking students with demonstrated academic success, positive community engagement, and a sense of adventure.

Your Andover Summer experience will be transformational - it is an opportunity to study in an environment that promises active-learning, rigor, and learning inside and outside of the classroom. For those choosing an online option, you'll have the chance to work directly with master teachers to create a personalized learning plan, focused on mastery-based learning experiences on your own timeframe.

Completing the application

Andover Summer is a selective program, offering admission to talented, motivated youth from all over the world. Each year we received several thousand inquiries, and we use the application to identify those students who are most eager for - and best equipped to handle the challenges of - an Andover academic experience.

The Andover Summer application - and that of our online alternative, eSummer at Phillips Academy - is now open to all applicants.

You can expect to work for ~3-5 hours on your online application for admission to the on-campus Andover Summer program. The application includes:

  • Personal, Family, and School Information
  • Short answer & essay questions
  • Two Recommendations (sent electronically to the teacher(s) of your choice and your school guidance counselor or administrator)
  • Transcript
  • Writing Sample* (ELL program applicants only)

Upon submission of your application you will receive email confirmation from our office. In addition, regular updates will be sent to your email address of record and you may check your application status on the Parent Portal. Once all recommendations and transcripts have been submitted by your teachers and school administrators, your application will be considered by the Admissions team, and a decision will be issued within 10-14 days.

Applications are accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis, beginning in the late fall. Our most popular courses and programs begin to fill in February each year, and our admission process typically closes in late April or early May.

Upon acceptance, applicants will have 2 weeks to complete the enrollment process, at which point enrolled students may begin selecting courses and preparing for the summer.

For the latest updates and information regarding COVID-19, we suggest you visit the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) or World Health Organization (WHO) pages, as well as Phillips Academy's resource page. Should global conditions dictate the postponement of our 2021 summer program, we will notify all enrolled families with the options for receiving refunds, transferring enrollment to the summer of 2022, or enrolling in our online eSummer program.
