New campus cell phone policy, AWE expands programming, Annual Report provides detailed look at PA’s financesAs part of a wider effort to support student health and well-being, the Academy has introduced a new cell phone policy, which thoughtfully limits usage at certain times and in specific places to help students form meaningful relationships, manage societal pressures, and make the most of their PA experiences. Debuting this fall, the enterprise also includes a “heads up” component that encourages students and faculty alike to be mindful and engaged with others as they walk across Andover Hill.
“The policy was an adjustment at first,” says Nafi ’26, “but I think it’s had a positive impact on our campus. At this year’s Quad Night event—the best turnout in years—people were fully present and having fun without phones. It was a great success. I believe the policy enabled that by eliminating our automatic instinct to pull out a phone, and instead having us think twice about if we needed it.”
An anonymous donor has helped seed the project with a gift to aid implementation and additional technology support. Investments in alternative communication methods, overnight phone charging banks, and other resources will facilitate the safety and welfare of all.
