Apply today to (MS)²!

(MS)² will run from Tuesday, June 30 through Sunday, August 2, 2026, on the campus of Phillips Academy. The online application for the new, incoming cohort of first-year scholars in summer 2026 is now open. 

 

Eligibility

(MS)² accepts applications from candidates who meet the following guidelines:

• 9^th grade students
• attend a publicly funded high school (traditional, charter, or BIE tribally controlled)
• come from communities who are underrepresented in the math and/or science fields
• have a strong interest in math and/or science related career

Preference is given to applicants who excel in academics (score in top 10-20% of their class), are first generation, and/or low income.  

The program currently recruits candidates from the cities of Atlanta; Baltimore; Boston; Chicago; Cleveland; Fort Worth, Texas; Lawrence, Mass.; Lowell, Mass.; Louisville, Ky.; Memphis, Tenn.; New York City; and Washington, D.C. as well as from Tribal Nations. *Interested candidates from other U.S. geographic regions may apply.

How to Apply

Step 1: Create Account

All prospective (MS)² scholars must establish an account before starting their (MS)² application. Click the "Apply Now" button to create an account.

After you complete the inquiry form, a confirmation email will be sent to the "contact email" provided. It will contain your account Username and Password to log in to the online (MS)² application. All future communications about the status of your (MS)² application also will be sent to the "contact email."

Step 2: Submit Application

A complete application includes the following documents, which must be submitted by January 15:

• Applicant Information
• Household Information
• Affiliations
• School Information
• Recommendations (8th grade Math, 9th grade Math, 9th grade Science, and 9th grade Counselor/Advisor)
• Current Grades/Transcript
• Applicant Questions
• Parent/Guardian Questions
• Financial Statement

Step 3: Complete Math Assessment

Once (MS)² receives all the required application materials, we will email you a link to an online math assessment, which must be completed by January 31. (MS)² applicants are expected to have completed one full year of algebra before entering the program (e.g,. students may be enrolled in algebra during the 9th grade or have completed algebra in middle school).

Step 4: Conduct Finalist Interview

Applicants will be notified by email on Saturday, February 7 if they are program finalists. Finalists are invited for personal interviews in their local cities or via video call; parents and guardians are encouraged to attend.

Admissions Notification

Finalists will be notified of admission decisions by email on Saturday, April 4. Admission is based, in part, on the candidate’s academic achievement to date, strong interest in mathematics and science, recommendations, personal desire and motivation, and demonstrated financial need.

Enrollment Forms/Registration

Newly admitted and returning (MS)² scholars must submit their online enrollment forms by May 1. These forms are accessible via the (MS)2 Family Portal.
