Lisa Joel

“Providing various opportunities for our full community to engage in sport, fitness, and wellness opportunities is my passion.”

This September Joel Begins her 26th year at Phillips Academy. Arriving shortly after graduating from Amherst College in 1993, there isn’t much Director of Enrollment Management Lisa Joel hasn’t done on campus. “I have the awesome opportunity to come to know students and their families in so many different capacities as a coach, house counselor, and advisor,” she explains. “The student-faculty relationships are what make a residential school setting so unique and rewarding.” After serving for seven years as the Dean of Abbot Cluster (2005-2012), Joel spent the 2012-2013 school year at Boston University during which she earned a master's degree in education. She returned full-time to the Admission Office in the fall of 2013 during which she also served as member of the academy's Strategic Planning team. What Joel enjoys most of all are the many avenues to interact with the talented and diverse student body at Andover which she does as the girls’ varsity soccer, post-graduate class coordinator, Empathy, Balance, & Inclusion instructor, and faculty advisor to the student-club Campuses Against Cancer. Currently she oversees the 12th and postgraduate applicant pool. Residentially, Joel spent twenty-two years living in both boys' and girls' dorms and is currently a complimentary house counselor in Alumni House, Andover's first all-gender dormitory.

Lisa and her husband Chris have three daughters—16-year-old twins Hope and Emma and 15-year-old Mariel as well as a four-year old German Shepherd, Takoda. During the summer months they enjoy spending time at their New Hampshire home, swimming in Newfound Lake, and cooking.
