Emma Frey
During my years at Andover I have taught diploma-required courses in world history, Atlantic world, and U.S. history. Teaching history so that students understand and appreciate the richness of people's lives in the past includes studying art, music, and literature in the context of its time to provide students with a greater appreciation of what it meant to live at different time periods. I enjoy taking students to the Peabody museum, Oliver Wendell Holmes Library and Academy archives and the Addison Gallery to explore the rich material culture that we have available on campus.
Currently I am part of the initial effort to integrate the Knafel map collection into the school's curriculum. This collection includes antique maps, atlases, and globes. Using these artifacts in the classroom shows students how views of the world shifted over time with the introduction of new technologies and ideas.
