Family Weekend 2021

October 22 - 24, 2021

We look forward to welcoming you to campus for Family Weekend! Family Weekend provides a unique glimpse into your child's daily life at Andover with activities such as classroom visits, meetings with their House Counseling team or Day Student Advisors as well as other special event offerings we have planned.

Check-in begins Friday from noon to 7 p.m. and continues Saturday from 7 to 10 a.m. in the Oliver Wendell Holmes Library.

General Schedule

The full schedule for Family Weekend can be found on the Andover Event Guides app, available through the Apple App Store or Google Play (for Android users).

  1. Download the Andover Event Guides app (if you didn’t already do so for the Opening of School registration).
  2. Open the app and tap Find Guides (the magnifying glass in the bottom right corner of the app).
  3. Tap the Have a passphrase? button.
  4. Type the passphrase Andover1778 to find the PA Families and Campus Community guide for the latest information and schedule for Family Weekend. Be sure to accept notifications so that you will receive notice of any venue or schedule changes.

Customize your visit for the full weekend by using the My Schedule option within the guide. We hope you will attend as many events as possible!

Visit The Hive to access your student's schedule prior to arriving on campus.

Please note that students do not have classes on Monday, October 25.

Health & Safety Protocols

In consideration of the health and safety of visitors and our campus community, we ask that attendees who are eligible be fully vaccinated. Please monitor your health prior to visiting campus. If you are feeling unwell, please plan to stay home.

All attendees are required to wear face coverings when indoors except when eating. While outdoors, face coverings should be worn when social distancing is not possible.

In the spirit of non sibi, the Academy trusts that those in attendance will follow these guidelines.


Parent Fund Kickoff Meeting

This annual meeting is an opportunity to hear from Academy senior leadership, current volunteers and the Parent Development team to learn more about the Parent Fund. Learning about the goals, the impact it has on the Academy and ways you can get involved. Parent-to-Parent Forum: “Thriving at Andover”

Join a panel of experienced PA parents; Amy Patel, MD, Sykes Wellness Center medical director; Suzanne Kemp, PsyD, director of psychological services, and Jenny Elliott ’94, P’22, ’24, assistant head of school for Residential Life and Dean of Students for a conversation about parenting PA students. Fellow parents will share their families’ Andover experiences, and topics will include adjusting to Andover life as well as challenges faced by adolescents. This will be in a panel format with the opportunity to ask questions of the panel members. This is an invaluable discussion, especially for first-year parents! Sponsored by the Parents of Students of Phillips Academy (PSPA).

A Conversation with CAMD Family and Friends: Cultivating a Sense of Belonging at PA

The Office of Community and Multicultural Development (CAMD) welcomes you to join us as we discuss the best resources we have for your students at PA—the people. The program will open with a keynote by CAMD director, Dr. Bridget Tsemo. She will emphasize how the work CAMD does to engage perspectives and backgrounds of our students through daily interactions and programming is directly connected to their academic excellence. You will then hear from a panel of adults from various offices on campus who are equally committed to supporting our students throughout their time at PA. For families of students who are ACE 9 and 10 alums, connected to Opening Blue Channels (OBC), and/or first generation to college.

The mission of the Community and Multicultural Development (CAMD) Office is to raise awareness and encourage understanding of differences of race, gender, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic class, geographical origin, sexual orientation, and more. CAMD fosters that belief through investigation and greater understanding of ourselves and others. The office sponsors workshops, lectures, and educational programs for the entire Phillips Academy community and contains a small library.

Andover Lower Year: An Insider’s Guide

This year’s 10th grade students (returning and new) are facing distinct challenges and opportunities in their engagement with our program this fall term. Tenth grade lower parents are invited for a conversation followed by Q&A with faculty members Kate McQuade, instructor in English; Susan Esty P’22, leader of the 10th grade Empathy, Balance & Inclusion program; Dr. Bridget Tsemo, director of CAMD; Jenny Elliott ’94, P’22, ’24, assistant head of school for residential life and dean of students; and Raj Mundra P’18, ’20, dean of studies. We look forward to the discussion.
