Andover launches new eSummer program

A set of highly personalized online learning experiences will begin June 29
by Beth Friedman

Phillips Academy is making the most of a difficult decision to suspend on-campus programming in summer 2020 due to COVID-19. In response to student interest, Andover will offer a set of highly personalized online learning experiences beginning June 29 through its newly-launched eSummer program. “While we believe strongly that the true magic of Andover Summer lies in the on-campus experience—something that simply can’t be replicated effectively online,” said Beth Friedman, director of Outreach and Summer Session, “we are pleased to provide an academic alternative with the opportunity to engage deeply with Phillips Academy faculty in the study of advanced content.”

Having an expert faculty member really get to know each student – their strengths, their goals, and their particular skill gaps – is at the core of the eSummer program.

The eSummer program includes course offerings in all disciplines, from the Physics of Flight to Digital Photography, giving students in grades 7-12 a range of courses from which to choose. With a focus on customized learning experiences designed to help students progress through learning goals in each course, Phillips Academy master teachers will serve as coaches and guides in the creation of a Personalized Learning Plan for each student. “Having an expert faculty member really get to know each student – their strengths, their goals, and their particular skill gaps – is at the core of the eSummer program,” said Friedman.

Families of students who had already enrolled in Andover Summer have several options: register for an online course, secure a space in the Andover Summer program in 2021 or withdraw from the Andover Summer program. We encourage families to check their email for details, visit our webpage, or contact us at [email protected].

Complete details can be found on our website: www.andover.edu/esummer and interested students may begin a new application to register for courses until May 31, 2020.
