Andover unveils new live-streaming platform

Fall athletic events kick-off initiative
by Neil Evans

Can’t make it to Andover to watch Big Blue student-athletes compete? Beginning with fall home games, Andover will offer live-streaming—a virtual way to see the action from Phelps Stadium, Smoyer Family Field, and Memorial Gym from anywhere around the globe.

The new streaming hub will feature team-specific channels to tune into. Viewers will also be able to see which home games are being streamed on our new athletics calendar.

We celebrate that Andover student-athletes represent ‘youth from every quarter’ and we know how important it is for parents, grandparents, alums, and friends to cheer on the Big Blue no matter where they are in the world.

Andover has partnered with PlaySight, one of Fast Company’s 10 Most Innovative Companies in Sports for 2018, to launch the streaming initiative. The global sports company specializes in superior spectator experience and high-performance technology that empowers coaches to analyze and integrate footage into their coaching strategies.

“PlaySight live-streaming allows us an exciting new way to connect our extended Big Blue family and friends with our student-athletes’ experience,” says Lisa Joel, director of athletics. “We celebrate that Andover student-athletes represent ‘youth from every quarter’ and we know how important it is for parents, grandparents, alums, and friends to cheer on the Big Blue no matter where they are in the world.”

An archive of past games will be available for parents to access with their Hive password credentials. Details on timing and how to access these games will be forthcoming.

Cameras have also been installed for winter and spring athletics at the Snyder Center for both squash and indoor track, the Harrison Rink for hockey, Phelps Park for baseball, and Peter Drench Park for softball.

Stay tuned as we work to bring the system fully online. Future plans include opportunities to stream student performances, guest speakers, and other events throughout the year. Future streaming sites include Cochran Chapel, Tang Theatre, and Kemper Auditorium, as well as the highly anticipated Pan Athletic Center.
