Jessica Herbster ’90

Jessica L. Herbster ‘90, General Counsel, joined Phillips Academy in July 2017. As the Academy’s in-house legal counsel, she is responsible for: providing advice to the Board of Trustees, the Head of School, members of the Senior Administrative Council, and other key administrators regarding developments in laws, regulations and standards of care applicable to an independent secondary school environment; advising on employment and labor law matters; presenting and providing appropriate training to employees on legal matters including workplace harassment and maintaining appropriate boundaries. Before joining the Academy, Jessica represented educators and employers for 11 years with the law firm, Schwartz Hannum PC in Andover, MA. Among her clients, she worked with school heads, boards of trustees, business managers, HR teams, deans, and faculty. She started her legal practice in 2000 in Roseland, NJ at Lowenstein Sandler PC. She is a graduate of Boston College Law School, Bucknell University.
