Alumni judges hold court for Appeals on Wheels and Blue Runs Deep programs

Phillips Academy was pleased to welcome back three alumni judges—Justice Gabrielle R. Wolohojian ’78, Justice Eric Neyman ’86, P’22, and Justice Sookyoung Shin ’92—for oral arguments on four MA Appeals Court cases as part of the state’s Appeals on Wheels program on November 7, 2023.

(L-R) Justice Gabrielle R. Wolohojian ’78, retired Justice Howard J. Whitehead ‘68, P’02, ‘04, Justice Daniel E. Dilorati ‘75, Justice Mary F. McCabe ‘71, Justice Sookyoung Shin ’92, and Justice Eric Neyman ’86, P’22, take questions from students in Kemper Auditorium.

These hearings offered the Phillips Academy community an opportunity to witness the courts in action: a bailiff calls the court into session, the judges enter, and lawyers for the parties present their arguments to the judges and answer the judges’ questions. The proceedings included two civil and two criminal cases.

Following the adjournment of the court, the judges responded to questions from the Student Alumni Representatives about their professional journeys beyond Andover. Three additional alumni judges serving in the Commonwealth—Justice Daniel E. Dilorati ‘75, Justice Mary F. McCabe ‘71, and retired Justice Howard J. Whitehead ‘68, P’02, ‘04—also joined the panel.
