Andover celebrates “topping off” ceremony for Pan Athletic Center

Andover celebrated the official “topping off” ceremony of the Pan Athletic Center on April 14, and the new sports and wellness complex is on track to welcome students for fall term 2022.

The final beams of the 70,000-square-foot structure are now in place and work will continue to accelerate over the summer. This second phase of the Athletics Master Plan sits in the footprint of the former Case Memorial Cage and Smith Center and will complement the adjacent Snyder Center, which opened in 2018.

Central to the building will be a state-of-the-art natatorium for swimming and diving as well as a prominent facility for dance and the performing arts. The wrestling team and the Andover Athletics Hall of Honor will also call the Pan Athletic Center home, with expanded spaces for each.

The small, socially distanced ceremony was attended by Head of School Raynard S. Kington, MD, PhD, P’24, Secretary of the Academy Thomas P. Lockerby, and the Pan Athletic Center building committee. A leadership pledge to name the center was provided by Zhang Xin and Pan Shiyi P’17, ’19, while key investments from the Abbot Academy Fund and other Knowledge & Goodness campaign donors helped make this landmark project possible.
