A call to serve

Alumni Council invites alumni trustee nominations
by Karleigh Antista

In spring 2018, the Andover alumni body will have the opportunity to elect two alumni to serve on the Board of Trustees for four-year terms beginning July 1, 2018—at which time the terms of Peter Hetzler ’72, P’10, and Allison Picott ’88 will conclude.

With the criteria listed below as a guide, the nominating committee of the Alumni Council invites you to suggest names of one or several individuals to be considered by the Executive Committee of the Alumni Council for nomination to the position of alumni trustee.

Criteria for Alumni Trustees

  • Strong and consistent support of Phillips Academy as a volunteer and as a donor
  • An area of expertise, experience, or knowledge that will contribute to the deliberations of the Alumni Council and Board of Trustees
  • Distinction in his/her own field
  • Significant volunteer activity and involvement in causes beyond Andover

Responsibilities of Elected Alumni Trustees

Elected alumni trustees serve on Phillips Academy’s Board of Trustees and Alumni Council. Along with the president of the Alumni Council and the senior cochair of the Annual Giving Board, they serve as a voice for the Alumni Council on the governing board and represent all alumni and alumnae of Phillips and Abbot academies.

To ensure that alumni trustees are fulfilling their obligations to the Academy, the Alumni Council, and the alumni constituency, each elected alumni trustee is expected to:

  • Serve a four-year term on the Board of Trustees according to the board’s requirements;
  • Attend all meetings of the Board of Trustees (currently there are three on-campus meetings per year);
  • Participate actively in committee conference calls between trustee meetings;
  • Attend Executive Committee meetings of the Alumni Council in the fall, winter, and spring, when possible;
  • Help the Alumni Council accomplish its mission by attending council meetings and other council committee meetings, when possible; and
  • Contribute to the Andover Fund on a yearly basis, as individual circumstances allow.

Alumni/ae for consideration may be submitted to Karleigh Antista, assistant director of Alumni Engagement, at [email protected]. Names submitted may be carried forward for future consideration as well.
