Wednesday, December 7th, at 1:30 p.m. EDT: Join us for Season 5, Episode 10 of the Peabody Diggin’ In series – The Archaeology of Harriet Tubman and the Black Communities in Auburn, NY.

Harriet Tubman is remembered for her courageous work leading enslaved people from Maryland to freedom in Ontario in the decade before the Civil War. She’s known for her unprecedented work during the Civil War, advocating for and recruiting black soldiers, while serving as a nurse and spy. Yet Tubman is little known for the fifty years she spent in Auburn, NY, where she operated a farm and boarding house, cared for foster children and aging black Americans, all while pursuing social justice work. This talk highlights the archaeological work at Tubman’s home while discussing the potential research areas related to the community associated with the areas around the Harriet Tubman National Historical Park.
