"NPS Archaeological Inventory from Maine to Virginia"

The NPS Northeast Region has nearly 10,000 archaeological resources spread over seven states and 83 parks.  This presentation will provide an overview of how we manage this inventory and highlight archaeological projects across the region. Under direction of United States Law and Policy the NPS is responsible for maintaining an inventory that includes the nature and extent of the resource as well as site narrative, condition, and status with the National Historic Register, increase public awareness, and protect these valuable resources.

 Meg Wilkes has been an archaeologist with the National Park Service’s Northeast Archaeological Resources Program since 2016. Meg is the regional Archaeological Resources Coordinator supporting the region’s 83 parks with archaeological site management, evaluation, protection, and interpretation. Prior to working with the NPS Meg has worked with archaeological projects across the US and globally specializing in remote sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software to investigate and interpret archaeological landscapes.
