Academy Concert Bands in Performance

3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., Cochran Chapel

On Sunday, February 17 at 3:00 p.m., the Phillips Academy Music Department will present a concert featuring the Academy Concert Bands under the direction of Vincent Monaco and Christopher Gagne.  More than sixty students play in the bands, some of whom also play in our orchestras.  They will perform traditional band fare such as Sousa’s march The Thunderer. American composer Aaron Copland will be represented as well as Australian composer Percy Grainger with his Colonial Song, written as a gift to his mother Rose in "an attempt to write a melody as typical of the Australian countryside.”  The Cave You Fear by Michael Markowski gives a sense of adventure and creepiness to the concert.  Works by Elgar, Rimsky-Korsakov, and highlights of “Pirates of the Caribbean” are also in the program.

The concert, which is free of charge and open to the public, will take place in Cochran Chapel, which is accessible, located on the Phillips Academy campus at 2 Chapel Avenue, Andover. Mass.
