Academy Chamber Music Society to Perform

6:30 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., Timken Room, Graves Hall

On Saturday, February 16 at 6:30 p.m., in the Timken Room of Graves Hall, the Phillips Academy Department of Music will present the Phillips Academy Chamber Music Society, with a membership of over fifty dedicated students, in a concert of chamber music.

They will perform works by a varied group of composers, from the well-known Haydn, Beethoven, Mozart, Brahms, Schumann, and the like to the less well known like Klughardt, Ibert, and David Anderson, who has performed as a bassist regularly with the Louisville and Atlanta Symphony Orchestras and began composing in 1984.  The pieces that will be performed have many and varied stories regarding their composition.  For example, Brahms composed the Horn Trio in E-flat Major in 1865 to commemorate his mother passing that year.  Villa Lobos’ works are characterized by the blending of Western classical music with Brazilian folk songs and rhythms.  David Anderson, recognizing the lack of solo repertoire for the bass, composed Bass Duets to add to the contemporary repertoire.

This concert is free and open to the public.  Refreshments will be served.  Graves Hall is accessible.
