Everyone eligible (1 nursing injury, 2 off campus did not play today) got some playing minutes today on a superb team effort. This coach appreciates the team communication that needed to happen because of the number of different line-ups we used today.
In the first set Janneke Evans and Evelyn Mesler dictated the tempo from the service line as well as power at the net giving PA a 9-2 start. although Deerfield managed to shrink our lead to 5 points a couple of times, Andover held on for a first set win. PA played especially well making saves on balls that team members shanked or misplayed, then getting the balls high to Margot Forti, Sewon Park, Adaeze Izuegbunam, as well as Evelyn and Janneke for hard hits and smart dumps.
Set 2 played out similar to the first; again the team supported Janneke and Evelyn in their serve rotation for 7-2 and 11-5 lead respectively. Andover and Deerfield traded side-outs until 14-11 PA when Anezka Kuncova's fired 6 consecutive serves for a 21-11 lead, enough to secure the second set.
The third set had Brooke Fleming start as setter and she served PA to an 8-0 lead. Three side-outs later Sewon Park, in her debut playing back row as well as right side hitter, served 4 winners to put Andover ahead 15-3. Caroline Yun fared well at hitting, especially a decisive kill shot from the back row. Anna Faliero and Katelyn Wang subbed in as defensive specialists in an emergency sub when Serene Liu( yet another stellar performance as liberal) had to come out to splint and ice her hand.
Adaeze Izuegbunam deserves special mention for her debut at middle hitter today, her enthusiasm and athletic play at the net shows much promise and helped the team today.
Evelyn Mesler, Janneke Evans, Brooke Fleming, and Anezka Kuncova's earned 10,9,8,7 service points respectively.
Andover #7 (7-5) will use our long weekend to nurse and rest injuries, and use Tuesday to prepare for a rematch against SPS #3 (13-2; Andover being one of only of two schools so far to record a loss for SPS) at their gym next Wednesday.
Thanks to all the fans, local and afar, who support the team, bring food and cheer. What a great family.
