Andover Drops Season-Opener on the Road

At Groton on September 14, 2016 at 3:15 PM

Andover kicked off for the first time in its program history a strong ISL team, Groton School, on a beautiful September afternoon. Unfortunately, GVS came up short as Groton capitalized in each half to earn a 2-0 win.

Andover struggled to gain control of the play through much of the first half. Groton's talented striker Caitlyn DiSarcina was able to capitalize on a Big Blue error midway through the first half and put Andover in a position to be chasing the game. While the second half of play saw Andover pushing forward in Groton's end of the field, the Big Blue could not find the back of the net as Groton's keeper finished the game with eight saves. Player of the Game was co-captain Cassie Chin who had four shots. Also with strong showings on the day included Zoe Oasis '17, Bri Fadden '17 and Courtney Masotti '17, who was celebrating her 18th birthday. Making their Andover varsity debuts were ninth graders Isabella DiBenedetto, Maddy Silveira, Madison Bourassa and Blakeley Buckingham. Lower Elise Macdonald, who joins the squad from the JV program, also contributed in the midfield. The Andover girls will use this match as a great opportunity to re-group and move foward as their prepare for another strong ISL opponent, 2015 Class B champions Rivers.
