The Andover Girls JV1 soccer team bested local rivals from the Rivers School posting a 4-0 shutout.
The Andover Girls JV1 soccer team hosted local rivals from the Rivers School for a game that is always hotly contested. This year the Big Blue dominated throughout and put 3 goals on the board in the first half, sending the game out of reach for the visiting team. Adding a goal in the second half, the team posted a 4-0 shutout win, the second victory of this young season. Katherine Marquis ’21 found net twice, both shots finishing on lovely services into the box from outside midfielders Sadie Cheston-Harris ’20 and Lillie Cooper ’21. Back Emma Dubroca ’19 scored off an assist from Erin Vasquez ’19, and it was great to see the entire team moving up and contributing to the offense. Cheston-Harris added a goal of her own in the second half, coming down the right flank and sending a lovely ball in over the keeper from a tight angle. Co-captain Jenni Lord ’19 contributed on the field but also selflessly took 2 turns in the net, as the team soldiers on without a full-time goalkeeper. The team roster is not deep, and with some players sidelined for the match, Andover played with just 2 substitutes most of the game. Every player contributed, played where needed, and supported one another on the field. The coaches were very proud of the effort shown today and thank the fans for coming out to watch the team in action.
