PAFH repeats as NEPSAC Class A Champions, defeating Hotchkiss 2-1 in penalty shootout. The team finished with a 16-3 final record – most wins in a season (last year 15-2-2 – 15 wins in 2015, 16 wins in 2016)
We scored with ten minutes left in the first half (Jo Caico ’18), who also scored the winning goal against SPS, but Hotchkiss responded and scored two minutes later to tie the game. Hotchkiss had the edge in play in the second half and the Andover defense had to stop 10 corners but they were up to the task and the game went to 7v7 overtime. Andover had the edge in play for both overtimes but each team had opportunities yet neither team could get the winning goal so the game went to a third overtime: a shootout. Andover went first and Meghan Ward ’18 converted her shot. Hotchkiss tied the shootout at 1-1 with their second shot. Andover’s fourth shooter, Charlotte Welch ’17 converted her shot on a great second effort. Hotchkiss tied the shootout on their turn. Andover’s fifth shooter, Elizabeth Welch, who had scored PAFH’s tying goal vs. Greenwich on a stroke, made her shot. Hotchkiss’ fifth shot was turned aside by goalie Liv Keefe ’17, but the official ruled a foul occurred and the shooter was given a second opportunity. As she has been all season, Liv Keefe made the stop again and PAFH won the shootout, the game and its second consecutive NEPSAC Class A Championship.
