Andover Runners Race to Twenty-three PRs on Family Weekend

At home on October 24, 2015 at 4:15 PM

Holden Ringer ’17 and Henry Spritz ’19 lead the way

The Andover boys’ cross country team hosted a strong NMH team on Family Weekend, and despite losses in two great races, Andover runners competed brilliantly with twenty-three athletes racing to new personal record times.

Special note should be made of NMH’s top runner, Ace McAlister, who ran a magnificent race to tie the course record, set by Andover runner Pablo Durana ’02 in 2001, with a time of 15:40. Congratulations, Ace!

On the Andover Varsity side, Holden Ringer ’17 (16:37) and Henry Spritz ’19 (16:39) worked together on the Great Lawn to get ahead of an NMH runner to take third and fourth, respectively. It was another impressive PR for Ringer, who has translated his superb training into exceptional races, and for Spritz, it was a 50-second PR and his first time under 17-minutes. Next came Nathan Goldthwaite ’18, finishing sixth overall in 17:18, a 56-second PR. Patrick Dolan ’16 (18:11) and Noah Belser ’16 (18:19) turned in strong races as well, working hard to get within sight of an NMH pack. Tevis Vitale ’16 put together a 19:14 in his return to racing after an injury, and JongHo Park ’16, running Varsity in his last Family Weekend, came within a few seconds of his best time on the home course, finishing in 20:32. NMH wins, 23-34.

Taking their cues from the inspiring races of the Varsity runners, the Andover JV runners pushed themselves to speedy times. Jacob Buehler ’19 (18:16) took second and Alex Emerson ’17 (18:17) took third, setting the tone for the many personal-best times to follow. Jake Zannazi ’18 crossed the line next with a tough 18:37, and behind him an Andover trio, John Wu ’17 (18:47), Harvey Zheng ’19 (18:51), and Sam Tobin ’18 (18:51), pushed one another to impressive races. BrianPaul Robert ’16 made his season debut with an excellent 19:00, rounding out Andover’s top seven. Also finishing for Andover were David Cohen ’18 (19:02), Will Kantaros ’18 (19:13), Ethan Brown ’17 (19:18), Abdu Donka ’18 (20:00), Brett Sawka ’17 (20:03), William Locke ’19 (20:11), Glib Stronov ’16 (21:02), Jack O’Neil ’19 (21:06), Junping Tang ’18 (21:10), Sam Katz ’19 (21:27), Isaiah Lee ’19 (21:37), Will Ennis ’19 (21:51), James Jusuf ’17 (22:35), Chase O’Halloran ’18 (23:09), Nick English ’19 (23:27), Bennett Sherr ’17 (23:27), and Daniel James ’18 (26:22). NMH wins, 23-32.

The Andover boys travel to Deerfield next Saturday (10/31/15) to gear up for the final two weeks of the season!
