Andover Wins Two Close Races Against Exeter

Andover cross country welcomed Exeter to the Great Lawn for the final dual meet of the season for both teams before the New England Championship.

The Varsity race came down to the wire. Up front, Exeter’s top runner ran a stellar race, finishing first overall, while Andover’s first, Holden Ringer ’17, turned in another brilliant performance, taking second with a time of 16:37. Henry Spritz ’19 (16:55) rode a strong kick past two Exeter runners to take third, and Ralph Skinner ’16 (17:05) followed close behind, finishing sixth. Next, Nathan Goldthwaite ’18 (17:17) and Colby Lapointe ’16 (17:22) raced ahead of four Exeter runners on the Great Lawn to secure seventh and eighth, respectively. Alex Emerson ’17 finished in a personal-record time of 17:57, and Patrick Dolan ’16 rounded out the Andover seven with a time of 18:00. Andover won, 26-29.

The JV race proved just as competitive as the Varsity contest. Using a speedy final push, Jacob Buehler ’19 crossed the line first in 18:04, establishing a new personal-record time. Spencer Davis ’18 (18:09) ran a strong, assertive race to take third overall, and close behind, Noah Belser ’16 (18:20) and Jake Zanazzi ’18 (18:22) finished between Exeter runners. BrianPaul Robert ’16, recently back from a season-long injury, looked to be in top form, racing to a season’s best 18:40, and following closely, Sam Tobin ’18 (18:45) ran his way to a new personal record on the home course. Seventh for Andover, Sebastian Bishop ’17 turned in another great performance, finishing in 18:50. Other Andover finishers included Abdu Donka ’18 (18:59), Harvey Zheng ’19 (19:05), David Cohen ’18 (19:07), Brett Sawka ’17 (19:19), Ethan Brown ’17 (19:20), John Wu ’17 (19:28), Will Kantaros ’18 (19:55), Jack O’Neil ’19 (20:03), JongHo Park ’16 (20:10), William Locke ’19 (20:36), JP Tang ’18 (21:23), Sam Katz ’19 (21:26), James Jusuf ’17 (21:30), Glib Stronov ’16 (21:30), Isaiah Lee ’19 (21:37), Will Ennis ’19 (22:44), Nick English ’19 (23:42), and Daniel James ’18 (27:06). Andover JV won, 26-29.

Next Saturday (11/14/15), Andover Varsity and JV runners will travel to Taft for the New England Championships.
