Hockey - Boys V
Program
The Boys’ Ice Hockey Team enjoys one of the richest traditions of those secondary schools competing in the Division I of the New England Prep School Ice Hockey Association (NEPSIHA) one of the premier leagues in the country. The season begins in mid-November with team tryouts and concludes in early March at the New England Prep School Tournament. The team typically practices four times per week with games on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The program also includes a junior varsity team which plays a very competitive prep school schedule. Andover has proudly qualified for the New England Tournament Playoffs numerous times in recent years.
Schedule
The varsity schedule of 26 games includes healthy rivalries with Exeter, Deerfield, Cushing, NMH, Tabor, Choate and Loomis. Andover also competes against ISL rivals Belmont Hill, Nobles, Lawrence Academy, Thayer, St. Paul’s and Governor’s Academy on an annual basis. The team competes in the Flood-Marr Tournament hosted by Milton and Nobles in mid-December. The tournament is a frequent stop for college coaches and a great opportunity for our players to be seen and evaluated.
Facilities
Andover plays in the recently dedicated Ted Harrison Rink (dimensions 200’x 96’) located adjacent to Phelps Stadium. Dedicated in June of 2002, the facility includes two ice sheets, state-of-the-art locker rooms, training room facility, visiting team rooms and lobby and viewing area. The raucous student section often gives Andover hockey a distinct home-ice advantage. Players are able to pursue strength and conditioning programs through the academy’s Rosenau Fitness Center and its free weights, weight machines, cardiovascular and resistance equipment. Players have access to three full-time athletic trainers for injury prevention and rehabilitation.
Who We Are
Graduates have historically gone on to compete in the Hockey East, ECAC and NESCAC hockey conferences. The Big Blue are coached by Dean Boylan (dboylanjr@aol.com) who will be entering his thirteenth campaign at the helm of the hockey team. He is assisted by Jon Morin, Matt Hession and Chris Gurry. It is an exciting time for Andover hockey and we hope you choose to become a part of the storied tradition.
