Anne Gardner

“Chaplaincy work, at its core, is about building community.”

Reverend Gardner is an Episcopal priest, serving under the auspices of the Diocese of Massachusetts. Prior to her 2008 selection as Andover’s inaugural Director of Spiritual and Religious Life, her work experiences included parish ministry, college chaplaincy work, and a research stint at the national headquarters of the Episcopal Church U.S.A. Most recently, she was chosen to participate in the 2019 WLSA Fudan Faculty Exchange Program (Shanghai, China), was selected as the 2018 keynote speaker for Founders Day at St. Joseph’s College (Brooklyn, NY), and joined the team of adults leading the 2016 Learning in the World program to South Africa.

As the Protestant Chaplain, she presides at weekly church services, officiates at weddings and funerals, and prepares interested students and adults for the sacraments. As the Director, she represents the Chapel on a number of administrative committees, serves as a faculty advisor for a variety of student faith groups, and designs all campus-wide observances, both religious and secular.

In addition to the above, Reverend Gardner is a house counselor in Abbot Stevens Hall, a large dormitory in the Pine Knoll Cluster. She also works as an interviewer in the Admission Office and enjoys her various assignments within the Academy’s athletic program.
