Eagle Bone Flutes: Past, Present, and Future

Alberto Agudo explores an interdisciplinary approach to studying ancient bone flutes housed at the Peabody Institute. By integrating the instruments’ historical context with musical analysis of a contemporary Native American musician, he presents the bone flute as a living musical experience rather than merely an artifact of the past.

Alberto is a senior at Phillips Academy Andover. He graduated in 2024 from Katarina Gurska in Madrid, Spain, completing a ten-year cycle of musical studies. Alberto began playing piano at the age of six and has pursued classical training ever since. More recently, he discovered a passion for exploring intercultural research and electronic music.

Meet Phillips Academy’s Andover Anthropological Society

The Andover Anthropological Society has been examining a large collection of Inupiat artifacts collected from Barrow Point, Alaska, learning about gender performance in Inupiat daily life. Club members will be presenting their research process and key findings to date.

The Andover Anthropological Society is a student club at Phillips Academy, established in early 2025. It engages students in hands-on research with cultural materials. Members receive training in collection handling, archival research, and museum practices.
