Alumni, families, and friends of Andover
are invited to participate in a non sibi project

Andover for Afghans with Michael Megalli '89, P'20

Thursday, April 28, 2022
4 to 5 p.m. PT

Join Michael Megalli '89, P'20 and the Seattle Regional Leadership Team as they approach non sibi with a spirit of longevity. During this one hour Zoom call participants will hear from local Seattle organizations and volunteers who currently support Afghan refugees. Participants will learn more about how to help - whether it be regularly, or sporadically.

We will be joined by Seattle based nonprofit organizations and community leaders to learn more about the community's needs and their ability to make an impact at this critical time. While this call in particular will be virtual, the residual work with local Seattle or Washington State organizations may be virtual, or in-person.

Speakers will include:
Najiba - a refugee from Afghanistan who moved to Seattle at the end of 2021
Mahfooz Hejran - Afghan American Community of Washington
Zarby Kakar - Immigrant Women's Community Center, read more about Zarby here
Anh M. Nguyen '96 - Sponsor Circle Volunteer
Melissa West - Home Host and Community Volunteer

Michael writes:

"The greater Seattle area is one of the biggest destinations for refugees from the war in Afghanistan. Thousands have already settled in the King County area and dozens more are arriving each week. With the rapid US withdrawal from Afghanistan last summer the need for refugee resettlement has taken on a new scale and urgency. It has overwhelmed the organizations and systems in place to handle these newcomers. To try and address some of this unprecedented and largely unrecognized need, the Seattle Regional Leadership Team has decided to try a new kind of approach to non sibi engagement. Rather than simply organizing an event, we will be inviting the Seattle Andover community (and others!) to participate how and when they can on a range of different opportunities that address many of the diverse needs facing our new neighbors."

Visit this one sheet summary to learn more about the various needs and ways to support.

Kindly RSVP here or contact Olivia Cristaldi Lacasse
in the Office of Alumni Engagement with any questions.
