Amy Falls ’82, P’19, ’21
President, Board of Trustees
Amy Falls became the first woman to serve as president of the Board of Trustees—of Andover or Abbot—on July 1, 2020. Falls earned degrees from Georgetown University and Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government; her professional experience includes positions with Morgan Stanley as managing director and global fixed income strategist. Prior to becoming chief investment officer at Rockefeller, she was Andover’s first CIO from 2005 to 2011. She built a New York-based team and managed Andover’s endowment through both prosperous and challenging times. Her non sibi portfolio is also expansive and includes seats on the boards of the Ford Foundation and Harvard Management Company. After Falls left Andover to become CIO at Rockefeller University in 2011, she was subsequently appointed to Andover’s Board of Trustees. In 2021, Falls was named Northwestern University’s vice president and chief investment officer, becoming the first woman in the University’s history to hold that position.
Lisa Joel
Director of Athletics
Lisa Joel came to Andover in 1993 after graduating from Amherst College, where she competed in soccer, basketball, and lacrosse for four years, captaining each of these teams during her senior year. Hired as a Teaching Fellow in Athletics, Joel had the opportunity to step into the assistant coach role in all three varsity sports during her first two years at Andover while also serving as Andover’s Sports Information Director.
In 1998, Joel was appointed the Big Blue girls’ varsity soccer coach. Over the years, the Andover girls’ varsity soccer team (GVS) has won the Class A Prep School championship on four occasions (1998, 2009, 2011, 2015). In 2011, Joel was named the NSCAA New England Private School Coach of the Year. In the fall of 2024, Joel was named Coach of the Year for independent schools by United Soccer (Massachusetts).
Joel is the Director of Athletics and has spent 22 years living in dormitories at Andover and serving as an academic advisor to numerous students and as the faculty advisor to the Class of 2016. She is also the faculty advisor for the student club, Campuses Against Cancer. Following a seven-year tenure as Dean of Abbot Cluster, Joel took a sabbatical in 2012 and earned a Master's in Education from Boston University. Joel, her husband Chris, and their three daughters enjoy spending time in the summer at their home in the mountains of Bristol, NH, running, cycling, and watching soccer at all levels.
Raynard Kington, MD, PhD, P’24, ’27
Head of School
Dr. Raynard S. Kington became the 16th head of school at Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, in July 2020. Prior to Andover, he served for 10 years as president of Grinnell College (2010–2020) and is now president emeritus. He previously served in a range of positions at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), including principal deputy director and acting director, associate director of the Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research, and acting director of the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.
Before NIH, Dr. Kington was a division director at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and served as director of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). He has also been a senior scientist at the RAND Corporation and assistant professor of medicine at UCLA. He was elected to the Institute of Medicine (now the National Academy of Medicine) in 2006.
Dr. Kington attended the University of Michigan, where he earned a BS with distinction and an MD degree; he completed his residency in internal medicine at Michael Reese Medical Center in Chicago. He was a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar at the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned an MBA with distinction and a PhD with a concentration in health policy and economics at the Wharton School and was awarded a Fontaine Fellowship. Dr. Kington received his board certification in internal medicine, public health and preventive medicine, and geriatric medicine.
His research has focused on the social determinants of health and, more recently, on diversity in the scientific workforce. He currently serves on the boards of the National Opinion Research Center, Beth Israel Lahey Health, RAND, and The Pew Charitable Trusts.
Dr. Kington is married to Peter Daniolos, MD, a professor of child and adolescent psychiatry. They have two sons.

He has also worked in admission for Harvard and Stanford Universities and Occidental College. Additionally, he was the director of college counseling at The Bishop School in La Jolla, California, for six years. Mr. Logan served two terms on the Board of Directors of Greylock ABC (A Better Chance), the Williamstown branch of a national program which places promising students of color at the nation’s leading high schools, and partnered with a philanthropist to establish a college counseling program for low-income high school students in San Francisco. He serves on the board of SCS Noonan Scholars, a program that helps high-achieving low-income underrepresented students get into and graduate from top colleges. Mr. Logan earned his undergraduate degree at Williams and holds a master’s degree in higher education administration from Stanford.
