Senior Parent Profile: Cathy Rasenberger P'15

Cathy Rasenberger & Marc Sevastopoulo

July 6, 2015

A dedicated Andover volunteer, Cathy Rasenberger joined the Andover parent community ready to make a difference. Cathy and husband Dimitri Sevastopoulo are the parents of recent graduate Marc Sevastopoulo ’15.

In 2011, when Marc was a junior, Cathy made it her mission to lead and grow an early effort to convene Andover parents in the New York City area. Today, this parent breakfast program is well established and broad in size and impact. Mothers and fathers from the area enjoy getting together throughout the year to share experiences and advice and act as an important resource for new families.

Cathy volunteered for four years on the Parent Fund Committee and served as a member of the Parent Fund Leadership Council. She soon found ways to expand her fundraising effectiveness, coordinating with the Office of Academy Resources and helping to grow resources for the boys’ and girls’ crew program. Most recently, Cathy spearheaded a targeted short-term effort to raise funds to send the crews and coaches to England for the Henley Royal Regatta and Henley Women’s Regatta, two of the world’s most prestigious rowing competitions.

Becca Brewster, PA’s director of parent giving, highlights that “Cathy shares remarkably positive and caring energy for Andover, and we have been truly fortunate for her involvement and partnership as a PA parent.”

Cathy’s leadership of the New York parent community serves as a model of community building and engagement, which is mirrored in similar efforts in other areas of the country, including Chicago and Northern California. Along with offering a friendly forum for the discussion of experiences and common concerns, regional groups such as these help families coordinate travel and vacation logistics.

We are sincerely grateful to Cathy for her tireless work for Andover and to the many parent volunteers who make time to support the Phillips Academy community.
