In a collaborative effort with the Community Service Program, the Office of Physical Plant and the Campus Sustainability Office, students and faculty organize an annual year-end Clothing and Book Drive. Students coordinate donations in the dorms and help faculty members with the pick-ups and delivery.
2007 Clothing & Book Drive
OPP staff will place collection boxes and bags in dorm common rooms. Residents are encouraged to place anything that they no longer want in those boxes. Collection teams will pick-up donations from dorms between during exam week and after graduation. Volunteers are needed to fulfill organizational roles and to help collect items for delivery.
Items will be collected in a central location, sorted and delivered to local non-profits. Clothes, appliances, rugs, etc. are donated to Lazarus House. All books are donated to Hands Across the Water, an international book recycling and re-use organization based in Stoneham, MA.
Bikes Not Bombs
In 2006, we expanded the year-end collect to include bikes. All donated and abandoned bike were donated to the non-profit organization, Bikes Not Bombs.
