Commencement - June 4, 2017
The Commencement Ceremony
In a time-honored Andover tradition, the commencement ceremony, which takes place in front of Samuel Phillips Hall, begins with a procession of Seniors and Faculty that is led by the stirring sounds of the Clan MacPherson Pipes and Drums of Lawrence, Massachusetts. Traditionally, students wear white dresses or jackets and ties and carry a red rose in the tradition of Abbot Academy. Following the formal part of the ceremony, the Senior Class processes to the Lawn in front of the Addison Gallery of American Art where they stand in a giant circle for the distribution of diplomas. After that, the new graduates and their guests can celebrate and say their good-byes while enjoying light refreshment. In the event of inclement weather, the commencement ceremony would be moved indoors.

Although Phillips Academy understands the desire of some families to celebrate their child's graduation with a bottle of champagne or cigars, we must insist that you do not bring cigars, champagne, or any alcoholic beverage to campus. We are also a non-smoking campus and ask you to refrain from smoking on campus. Thank you.
