Objects and Their Stories: Highlights from the Robert
S. Peabody Museum This exhibition is a retrospective look at how objects
collected by the Peabody Museum reflect past intellectual perspectives
of the collectors, influenced the development of American archaeology
as a discipline, encapsulate Native histories and how they are presently
understood.
The museum displays its collections in long- and short-term exhibitions
showcasing the diversity and achievements of Native American life and illustrating
techniques and recent discoveries in archaeology.
At present, long-term installations highlight Northeast
Woodland cultures; Southwestern pottery; archaeology in the Tehuacan Valley in Mexico; and Central
and South American textiles. A series of smaller changing exhibitions
allows the museum to address topics of current interest and to display
recent acquisitions. Currently, materials from Pecos Pueblo, New Mexico
are on display in the Hornblower Gallery.
