Frank "Deke" DiClemente:
Legendary coach, mentor

As the Andover Bulletin was going to press, we learned of the death on Sept. 28 of Frank "Deke" DiClemente, legendary Phillips Academy coach and mentor, whose students included President George W. Bush ’64 and former President George Bush ’42. During his 40-year career at Phillips Academy, DiClemente coached 40 varsity basketball teams and 28 varsity soccer teams, developed an intramural competitive system in various sports, founded the New England Prep School Athletic Council, and taught biology and chemistry.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Berdine; a daughter,

Ann DiClemente Ross ’58 of New York City; a son, James P. DiClemente of Andover; three grandchildren, including Brooks Ross ’93; and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held Oct. 27 in Cochran Chapel. Gifts for a scholarship fund in his memory may be sent to the Trustees of Phillips Academy, 180 Main St., Andover MA 01810.
