Girls' Junior Varsity Field Hockey Coach
Phillips Academy seeks two coaches to develop individual skills, teamwork and sportsmanship in our junior varsity girls’ field hockey team. Commitment is approximately 10-18 hours per week during the fall season, subject to travel and game schedules. Experience playing and/or coaching field hockey as well as experience working with high school age students preferred.
Strength and Conditioning Coach
The Athletic Department seeks a part-time, academic year Strength and Conditioning Coach to plan and implement strength and conditioning programs for academy athletes with varying levels of experience. The ideal candidate will have CSCS, NASM-PES, or NASM-SFS certification, current CPR/First Aid certification, and excellent communication and organizational skills. Monday-Friday, 3:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m., each term.
Bus Drivers
Phillips Academy seeks part-time drivers to transport athletic teams to afternoon practices. Hours are 3 p.m. – 6 p.m., Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays through November 6, 2007. Applicants must have an immaculate driving record, be comfortable driving in the greater Lawrence and/or greater Boston areas. DMV and full background check required.
Brace Center
Administrative Assistant
The Brace Center for Gender Studies at Phillips Academy sponsors programs related to gender and education, and houses an extensive resource library on gender and multicultural studies. The center seeks a part-time administrative assistant to work with the director to manage day-to-day operations, help to maintain the Web site, and monitor the center during evening study hours. This is a part-time, academic year position, Monday through Thursday from 6:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m. while classes are in session during the school year. The qualified candidate will be a responsible, self-motivated person who works well with students and other academy constituencies. Competence with Microsoft Word, File Maker Pro and HTML on a Macintosh is preferred.
Central Services
Clerk
The Central Services department seeks a clerk to receive, process, meter and distribute incoming and outgoing packages and mail, operate photo copier, provide customer service, operate the cash register and deliver on-campus mail as assigned. The ideal candidate will be a friendly, helpful team player who can accurately perform a variety of tasks in a busy, fast-paced environment. Ability to lift 50 pounds individually and 100 pounds with co-worker and ability to reach, bend, twist and stand for long periods required. Full-time position.
Communication Dept.
Web Designer
Reporting to the director of public information and web communications, the web designer assists in web site and e-communication strategy development and trains and supports campus-wide content editors and blast email users, assisting with the creation and posting of content (including graphics, audio, and video), overseeing compliance with web design specifications, designing push pages and e-newsletters, and evaluating and implementing new web site features, including Web 2.0 functionality. Also works with the director of web services on user interface and graphic design issues, as well as on issues related to web site optimization. Qualifications include BA in web design, computer science or a related field plus five years experience designing and maintaining institutional web sites. Thorough knowledge of the Academy’s customized Sharepoint CMS user interface and its L-Soft blast email system, skilled in the use of HTML, CSS, Javascript, Flash, Photoshop, and Dreamweaver and familiarity with SQL, ASP and .NET languages also required. Experience working with Canto Cumulus and such e-communication technologies as blogging, wikis, social networking, podcasting, push pages, e-newsletters, and blast email systems preferred. Dean of Students
Manager, OneCard and Contact Management Office
Phillips Academy seeks a manager to oversee all aspects of the daily operation of its newly developed OneCard and Contact Management Office. Responsibilities include establishment of OneCard program policies and procedures, production and distribution of cards, program marketing, user training, troubleshooting of system performance issues, and management of card-related data. The manager will serve as a liaison with campus departments to maximize card services and utilization, and will collect and maintain contact information for academy emergency notification systems.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter with strong technical, organizational and customer service skills. Knowledge and experience with the Datatel Student Information System or similar database systems preferred. Full background check required. Part-time position with partial benefits; 32 hours per week, 39 weeks per year, including 6 weeks during the summer months.
Office of Physical Plant
Night Custodian
Phillips Academy seeks a night custodian. The qualified candidate will have a minimum of two years custodial experience including floor care. Valid driver’s license, personal vehicle for on-campus transportation and full background checks required. Full-time position, Monday through Friday, 3:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. with “on-call” status and overtime as required. $12.00 per hour with excellent benefits.
Mechanical Leadperson
Reporting to the Manager of Electrical and Mechanical Maintenance, the Mechanical Leadperson is responsible for direct supervision of the Mechanical Shop and will supervise, schedule, inspect, plan, program and implement campus mechanical systems maintenance, both preventative and predictive for assigned facilities. The Leadperson will also work closely with the HVAC Systems and Project Specialist to coordinate work for the HVAC team. The qualified candidate will have demonstrated supervisory experience plus 10 years of trade-related experience in either HVAC, pipefitting or plumbing, and will possess all necessary State licenses for trade related discipline. Experience in reading construction documents shop drawings, layout work and material lists also required. Physical ability to perform all job functions including lifting objects in excess of 50 pounds and the ability to climb in and out of manholes and vaults required. Overtime required as necessary. Must have and use personal vehicle while performing job duties.
Manager of Environmental Health and Safety
Phillips Academy seeks a Manager of Environmental Health and Safety to direct an established team of three safety specialists in the design, coordination and oversight of campus-wide environmental health and safety programs in compliance with applicable federal and state environmental and occupational health and safety laws. The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor's Degree plus a minimum of eight years of related experience managing environmental health and safety, industrial hygiene, environmental engineering or science programs in an academic environment. A positive, service-oriented demeanor, extensive knowledge of State and Federal environmental and occupational health and safety regulations. and excellent problem-solving, written, and oral communication skills also required. Knowledge of computer systems and software, including Microsoft Excel and Word, required. Familiarity with engineering drawings and review of bid specifications preferred. Environmental Support Services Assistant
Phillips Academy seeks an Environmental Support Services Assistant to work with an established team of safety professionals to support daily operations of campus-wide environmental health and safety programs in compliance with applicable federal and state environmental and occupational health and safety laws. Under the direction of the Manager of Environmental Health and Safety, the assistant will implement a variety of health and safety related programs, included but not limited to small scale asbestos abatement, AHERA inspections, hazardous waste containment and disposal, and lead paint removal. Extensive, legible and accurate record keeping and document retention are critical aspects of position. The successful candidate will possess a Massachusetts Asbestos Worker license and Asbestos Inspector license plus six years of related experience. Excellent problem solving, written, and oral communications skills, as well as a valid driver’s license and use of personal vehicle, also required. Collections Assistant
Phillips Academy’s Robert S. Peabody Museum of Archaeology seeks a Collections Assistant to support the Registrar/Senior Collections Manager in the management of the Museum’s artifact, document, image, and library collections. Responsibilities include project development and supervision of approximately 30 work duty students per term, and cataloguing of artifact and image collections, including researching archaeological site information using the 4th Dimension collections management database. Qualifications include a BA in archaeology/anthropology, familiarity with archaeological artifact typologies, computer skills including Internet, Word, Excel, Photoshop and databases, and knowledge of professional museum standards and practices. Dormitory Safety Inspector
Phillips Academy seeks a part-time, evenings (7:45 p.m.–10:15 p.m., Monday through Thursday) September through June, academic year Dormitory Safety Inspector. The Inspector will help to identify and resolve safety hazards in girls’ dormitories. The qualified candidate will be a female who has experience working with high school-aged students and be committed to the strong life safety program at Phillips Academy.
Technology Department
Director of Network and Systems Services
With minimal supervision and under the general direction of the Director of Technology, the Director of Network and Systems Services is responsible for all aspects of short- and long-term budgeting, staffing, purchasing, systems evaluation, capital project management of servers, data networking, and telecommunications infrastructure, management of a team of six technical professionals, as well as leadership and consultation to director and other managers. The technical environment of oversight includes 75-plus building Cisco-based fiber data network and Avaya S8700 server based telecommunications network, 55-plus servers running Windows, Linux and AIX, Blackboard Academic Suite, multi-server Microsoft Exchange, Sharepoint and Active Directory infrastructure, Citrix, EMC SAN, NetBackup, Maximo, Datatel, SQL server, etc.
Successful candidate will have demonstrated leadership skills plus a minimum of five years of experience in managing network and systems services, budgets, projects, and contract management, preferably in an academic environment, and strong interpersonal and communications skills. A degree in computer science or a related field is preferred.

Theater Department
Dance Accompanist
Phillips Academy seeks a pianist to work with the dance faculty to provide musical accompaniment for ballet and modern classes. Expected commitment is 3 hours per day (3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.) 2-3 days per week, for 24 weeks per year based on a trimester system. Working closely with the ballet and modern dance instructors, the accompanist will understand the structure of both disciplines and play the appropriate style music to enhance the educational experience of the students while maintaining the proper pace to the class. Strong communication skills and the ability to climb two flights of stairs.
