ANDOVER,
Mass.—Parents' Weekend is always filled with special happenings
at Phillips Academy. There will be musical performances all weekend
to include the Academy orchestras and choirs, as well as individual
student performances. The concerts are free and open to the public.
The
orchestra concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17,
in Cochran Chapel. Selections will feature Thomas Y. performing
Finzi's Clarinet Concerto and Arianna W. performing the Violin Concerto
by Sibelius under the direction of William Thomas. The program will
also include Mock Morris by Percy Grainger directed by Elizabeth
Aureden; Mozart's Divertimento in D Major directed by Peter Warsaw;
and Dvorák's Symphony No. 9 "From The New World"
under the direction of William Thomas.
Students
Kathleen O., Jina L., Emily W., Cage B., Erika C., Justine L., Vincent
S., Alexander C., Clare K., Lauren B., McKee F. and Yunsoo K. will
be featured in a recital at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, in the Timken
Room in Graves Hall. The event is coordinated by music faculty member
Christopher Walter.
The
Music Department will present a choral concert featuring the Phillips
Academy Chorus, Fidelio Society and Academy Cantata Choir and Chamber
Orchestra at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, in Cochran Chapel. The Fidelio
Society, a select a cappella choir under the direction
of faculty member Carolyn Skelton, will perform works by Palestrina,
Batten, Harris, Jones and Certon. The Cantata Choir and Chamber
Orchestra, under the direction of William Thomas, will perform excerpts
from Mozart's Requiem. The Phillips Academy Chorus, under the direction
of Christopher Walter, will perform Giovanni Gabrieli's Hodie completi
sunt, Gabriel Fauré's Cantique de Jean Racine and Jubilate
Deo by Benjamin Britten.
Graves
Hall and Cochran Chapel are on the Phillips Academy campus, 180
