| CAMBRIDGE,
Mass.—“OVER/ and Over,” a collaborative dance
performance featuring alumni and teachers of Phillips Academy, will
be held at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20, and Saturday, Aug. 21, at Green
Street Studio, 185 Green St., Central Square, Cambridge. The performers
and choreographers of United Dancers of Phillips Academy (UDOPA)
bring a wide range of experiences to this project, creating a rich
texture of dance making and performing. Included are conservatory
students, university students, professional choreographers, dancers
just beginning their professional careers and young professionals
working in the fields of computers and education.
“The
event promises to be a dynamic experience, bridging generations
and reuniting old friends,” says choreographer Judith Wombwell,
Phillips Academy instructor in dance, who created three new works
for the performance.
Other
choreographers for “OVER/ and Over” include April Betty,
Anne Zuerner, Liz Vacco and Midge Brecher. Betty, who recently received
a B.A. in dance from Bard College and has been working with children
and performing in the Boston area, has created a new group piece.
Zuerner, a Barnard graduate who returned to Andover to teach dance
and perform in the Boston area with Anna Myer and Dancers, will
perform two self-choreographed solos, one in high heels, the other
in wrestling shoes. She also will present a new trio in which dancers
behave like robots. Vacco’s new work features “Immediate
Medium,” a company whose paths converged in 1996 while attending
Yale University as artists experimenting in different media, including
performance art, photography, film, architecture, theatre, dance,
sculpture, video and writing. Retired Phillips Academy faculty member
Brecher will restage a duet she originally created for the dancers
when they were secondary students.
Performers
include Natalie Wombwell, who is in the dance conservatory at Purchase
College; Brienne Leon, who performs with the Yale dancers; Natalie
Ho, who studies dance at Brown University; Comfort Halsey and Emily
Reynolds of Andover; Eleanor Kusner, who studied dance at Barnard
College and performs with Anna Myer and Dancers; and Miles Lasater
of New Haven; as well as Betty, Wombwell, Vacco and performers of
“Immediate Medium.”
