FRENCH, FAUX FRENCH AND NON-FRENCH
A Concert of Baroque Chamber Music

ANDOVER, Mass.—The Phillips Academy Music Department will present a concert of baroque chamber music at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 25, in Cochran Chapel. Performing are Cynthia Miller Freivogel, Class of 1994, violin; Nika Zlataric, cello; Joseph Gascho, harpsichord; and Justin Godoy, recorder. Free and open to the public, the program will include works of Purcell, Telemann, Handel and Marias, among others.

Freivogel, originally from North Reading, Mass., received a B.A. degree from Yale University and a Master of Music degree in violin performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where she studied with Camilla Wicks. She currently performs as an orchestral and chamber musician on both baroque and modern violin. She is a member of Apollo's Fire (Cleveland Baroque) and San Francisco Bach Choir chamber orchestras. She is dedicated to teaching and the development of strong music education programs in schools.

Godoy received a bachelor's degree in composition with a minor in
recorder performance from the Peabody Conservatory in 2002. In 2001, he was the only American and one of seven students selected for the Virtuoso Recorder Program at the Amherst Early Music Festival. In 2002, he won scholarships to attend both the Amherst Early Music Festival and the International Baroque Institute at Longy. He has recorded with the National Cathedral Choir for Public Radio International and recently won a Beebe Foundation grant to study at the Amsterdam Conservatory with Saskia Coolen in the fall.

Zlataric was born into a musical family in Zagreb, Croatia, and began studying piano at age five and cello at age ten. She has studied
at Glazbena Skola "Funkcionalne Muzièke Pedagogije," Zagreb Academy,
Oberlin Conservatory and is currently pursuing a master's degree at the
Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y., studying with Steven Doane. As a cellist and pianist, she has been the recipient of numerous awards and scholarships in Europe and the United States.

Gascho won first prize in the Jurow International Harpsichord Competition and was recently awarded a grant for solo performance by the Maryland State Arts Council. He earned a master's degree from the Peabody Conservatory; his teachers included Webb Wiggins, Arthur Haas and Lisa Crawford. He has performed with the Washington Bach Consort, Baltimore Symphony Chamber Players, Modern Musick, Peabody Opera, Peabody Concert Orchestra, Ceciliana Quartet and at numerous early music festivals.
