12 Students Win National Merit Scholarships

 May 26, 2006

ANDOVER, Mass.—The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) has announced that 12 Phillips Academy students are among the approximately 8,200 students nationwide to be selected as winners in its 51st annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Each of these winners will receive a share of nearly $33 million in scholarship money distributed by NMSC.

More than 1.3 million juniors in nearly 21,000 U.S. high schools entered the 2006 National Merit Program by taking the 2004 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Earlier this year, NMSC had announced that 24 Phillips Academy students had been named as Merit Scholarship Finalists. Less than one percent of all U.S. high school seniors earn that distinction.
