Susanna A. Jones '77: Alumni Trustee

Susanna Jones serves as head of school at The Ethel Walker School, a nationally recognized college-preparatory school for girls in Simsbury, Conn.

             

An articulate advocate for high-caliber education in general and rigorous girls’ education in particular, Jones is a member of the National Association of Principals of Schools for Girls, Headmistresses of the East, and the Connecticut Women’s Council. She also serves on the Education Committee of the Simsbury Historical Society and the board of SPHERE, a consortium of independent schools promoting diversity.

An honors graduate of Princeton University, Jones later earned MA and MPhil degrees in history from Columbia University. She began her career as a history teacher at The Spence School in New York City and served six years as the upper school director at Marlborough School in Los Angeles.

Jones has worked as a development consultant with Peggy Powell Dean & Co. and in development positions at Union Theological Seminary and at St. Hilda’s and St. Hugh’s School, where she was director of development. She has contributed to The Encyclopedia of New York City and co-authored The Complete Guide to Capital Campaigns for Historic Churches and Synagogues.

An active PA alumna, Jones has served as a class agent, a board member of the Andover-Abbot Alumni/ae Association of Southern California, an alumni admissions interviewer, a 10th Reunion chair, and a class secretary. She has also served on the Alumni Council and the Kenan Committee, and she has taught for four summers at Andover Summer Session.

Jones has a long family history at Andover: she is the daughter of Edward S. Jones ’46 and Patricia Bleecker Jones ’49; the sister of Abigail Jones Feder ’80 and Thomas Jones ’83; and sister-in-law of Soraya Chemaly ’84. Jones and her husband, Rob Beguelin, live in Weatogue, Conn., with their 10-year-old son, Aaron, and two Scotties.
