Hindustani Concert Set for Oct. 14

October 9, 2006

ANDOVER, Mass.—Accomplished and versatile sitarist Michael Siegell will lead a Hindustani music concert, an ancient musical tradition from northern India, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, October 14, in Cochran Chapel.

One of few westerners to train seriously in Indian classical music, Siegell has studied the sitar since the 1970s, both in the United States and India. He maintains an active career in music, ethnomusicology, recording, and music performance, and has performed in a wide variety of venues in the United States and India, sometimes accompanied by many of India’s greatest masters of classical music.

For this concert, Siegell will be accompanied by his wife, Lakshmi Mudunuri, on the tanpura (stringed instrument) and Nishikant Sonwalkar on the tabla (percussion).

The event, made possible through the generosity of the Abbot Academy Association, is free and open to the public. For more information, please call  978-749-4995.
