Oct. 14, 2005-- Students looking for a dry place to kill time between classes on a rainy Friday morning found an unusual retreat: a 53-foot tractor trailer parked in front of Cochran Chapel that housed a comfortably appointed, high-tech sitting room complete with computer consoles and LCD displays. Joseph J. Salvo ’76 brought the truck to campus to give kids a look at new technology he had developed to make the global cargo shipping industry more efficient while enhancing homeland security. While Salvo did most of the talking during his demonstrations, he got some help from his 9-year-old son, Joe Jr., who dazzled listeners by adroitly explaining how laser technology can be used to monitor cargo inside the trailers.
