Dodge for the Cause: The First Annual Phillips Academy Charity Faculty Dodgeball Tournament

On Friday evening, September 26, at the Borden Gym a group of Phillips Academy faculty and staff members traded in their lesson plans for sweat bands, textbooks for team t-shirts, and attendance logs for dodge balls as they played game after game of dodge ball during "Dodge for the Cause: The First Annual Phillips Academy Charity Faculty Dodgeball Tournament." Over 45 faculty members played on six teams, each of which was going for the glory in the name of a charity of their choice. The teams played for Oxfam International, the Lawrence Youth Development Organization, Hurricane Ike Relief, the International Red Cross, Broadway Cares, and Project Bread. Over 250 students and supporters came out to watch the tournament and cheer on their favorite teachers, contributing a total of $800 to the six charitable organizations. The winning team, "Hoenig's Heroes," was captained by Religion and Philosophy teacher Andy Housiaux and played in red for Oxfam International. The team of Teaching Fellows came out in hot pink uniforms and caused quite a stir with the student crowd. The event was a great success and both faculty and students are already looking forward to next year's tournament.
