Language Resources

  • Ethnologue: Languages of the World
"The Ethnologue is a catalogue of more than 6,700 languages spoken in 228 countries." The web version is based on the print versions of the Ethnologue: Languages of the World, edited by Barbara Grimes. Not a dictionary, this site describes the languages of the world by country.
  • Foreign Language Resources on the Web
Language/culture specific resources selected for quality.  Languages are: Arabic, Cherokee, Chinese, Czech, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Latin, Middle English, Portuguese, Russian, Scandinavian, South Asian languages, Spanish, Swahili, Tagalog, Turkish and Yiddish and font links. On the bottom of the page are some general language to scholarly sites.
  • ilovelanguages page, formerly Human-Language Page

  • Now commercialized and very busy with advertising, the formerly H-LP is an index of resources organized by type and by language which includes such topics as Languages and Literature, Multilingual Resources, Schools and Institutions, and Commercial Resources. Still a good choice for up-to-date links.
  • Portals to the World--Spanish Language Resources
Web sites, mostly country studies, chosen by the Library of Congress subject experts.
  • Spanish Language Resources
From the San Antonio Public Library.
  • Phillips Academy Andover's Division of World Languages
