How to find excellent information on the Internet

If you are like 73% of current college students,
you might be inclined to start research by firing up Google.

Little known, and very important, facts about Google:

  1. Google doesn't search the whole Internet, it searches only the "surface web."
  2. It is estimated that only 7% of the information on the surface web is appropriate for educational or scholarly purposes.
  3. Google's database includes approximately 16% of the sites on the surface web.
If you love Google, try new Google Scholar, which limits its results to "scholarly literature such as peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, preprints, abstracts, and technical reports," according to a company statement.

If you use only Google, you will be missing out on all of the information in the subscription databases and other full-text digital resources provided by the OWHL. So, where are you going to go?

THERE'S A LOT TO LEARN ABOUT SEARCHING.
A LITTLE TIME INVESTED UP FRONT WILL MAKE YOU MUCH MORE EFFICIENT AND EFFECTIVE.
