For Books in the Oliver Wendell Holmes Library:
Search the OWL Catalog
  • For books, magazine titles, desk reserves, videos and Special Collections:
    Search by author, title, keyword, Library of Congress subject heading, series or periodical title.
  • For newspaper or periodical articles, use the library's online periodical databases.

For Books in the NOBLE collection

The OWHL is a member of the North Of Boston Library Exchange (NOBLE); “a cooperative effort of 27 area libraries founded to improve library service through automation. Seventeen public library members, nine college libraries and one special library are members of NOBLE.” Members of the PA community have direct access to over 3 million items in the Noble catalog. Come to the library to get a personal identification number (PIN) which will allow you to request titles from any of the member libraries.

For Books in Memorial Hall Library, Andover's public library:

Search the iPAC catalog at http://www.mhl.org. If the book is on the shelf at Andover, you may use your PA identification card to borrow the book. The library is located at the intersection of Main and Elm Streets. You are responsible for returning the book on time.

For Inter-Library Loan from Libraries in MassachusettsThe Virtual Catalog searches through many Massachusetts library catalogs for a book, CD, audio or video and then informs you who owns it and whether it is on the shelf. The Virtual Catalog will enable you to request an item statewide if it is not available in NOBLE libraries. If the item is available in NOBLE, you must request it through the NOBLE Catalog.

For books not owned by NOBLE or Memorial Hall Library: Search OCLC WorldCat

OCLC WorldCat is a database of hundreds of library catalogs, all around the country. Through the Commonwealth of Massachusetts the OWHL is able to borrow books from other libraries, usually without any charge to you. Search the database and speak to a librarian about your requirements. Please remember that it can take a week or more to obtain your book. Contact if you have questions about a pending loan request.For REMOTE ACCESS, use 2186700 plus your 7 digit PA ID number. Call the library at x4230 or email us at for help. You may also use a Merrimack Valley Library Consortium library card bar code number.
