For Students
The OWHL is committed to meeting the needs of students for diverse individual and group study spaces, a large and excellent assortment of print and electronic resources and the tools to use them, and just-in time assistance.
Facilities include the popular Garver Reference Room, which is devoted to individual, quiet study, the Dole Room, designated for collaborative group work, and the Freeman Reading Room (affectionately nicknamed the “Comfy Chair Room.” In addition, tables on every floor, 137 student carrels scattered throughout the building, and “desks-in-the-stacks” provide just the right study atmosphere for focused study.
The Resources of the OWHL in print are rich and abundant. Using library computers or their own computers on the wireless network, students may identify books in the online catalog, send the call numbers as a text message to their phone, and locate the items in the stacks. Students may also search the catalog of the NOBLE consortium, and place requests for books and other materials. Collections of materials in support of specific classes are set aside as “Academic Reserves.” The OWHL also operates a popular textbook loan program know as the Text Exchange.
Finally, because the information universe can be a bit overwhelming, the OWHL has a team of helpful, knowledgeable Librarians to make sure that you find what you need. Whenever the library is open, a librarian is available on the “Help Desk” to answer questions and guide research. In addition, students can make appointments for “Individual Research Consultations,” and can contact the OWHL team via email, text, and chat.
