Children's Resources

Come to the children's corner on the main floor of the OWHL and explore the many books waiting to be checked out or read in the library.   If you are looking for a book for a particular age group check the color coded strip on the spine of the books.  The purple strip is for kids 0-3.  The orange strip is for early readers 4-6  and the blue strip is for middle readers 7-9.   This excellent collection contains all of the winners of the prestigious children’s book awards the Newbery Award  and the Caldecott Medal  purchased with an Abbot grant. Two memorial funds for past members of the PA community, Kathryn S. Crawford fund and Marilyn O'Brien fund, also support the collection.  Another popular feature of the collection is the “Baby Book.” The OWHL purchases a book in the honor of each new baby born or adopted by a faculty or staff member of the Academy.  These books are plated with the name of the honoree, and are kept in the collection for the enjoyment of all.  In addition to books, there is a collection of DVDs for children.  Check the DVDs on display for the red dot which indicates a G rated movie.
