Borrowing Academic Reserves
Who?
All PA students will be required to use Academic Reserves at some time during their Andover career.
What?
At the direction of a teacher, books on specified topics are pulled out of the stacks, placed at the Circulation Desk and gathered into a temporary collection called Academic Reserves.
When?
The loan period for these materials is much shorter than that for regular circulating books, to facilitate sharing among the group. The teacher decides whether the reserves will be Closed, Overnight, or 3-day. Materials on closed reserve may be checked out for either 1 hour or 2 hours, and must be used in the library or PACC. Overnight reserves may be checked out after 8:00 pm and must be returned by 9:00 am the next day. Three-day reserves may be checked out at any time for three consecutive nights and are due back at 9:00 am on the fourth day
Where?
Academic Reserves are available at the Circulation Desk in the OWHL.
Why?
Even though the OWHL has an excellent collection in support of the curriculum and assignments at PA, that collection would be quickly exhausted when an entire class is doing research on the same topic. The first few people would check out all of the books on the topic, and everyone else would be out of luck.
How?
Check the OWHL catalog first (search by your teacher’s name or the course number) to find the title of the book that you want, then ask for that book at the Circulation Desk. Bring your ID. You will need it to check out reserves, and you must leave it at the desk while you use a book on closed reserve.
Be careful to bring back materials on time! Reserves accrue overdue fines at a rate of $1.00 per hour.
