McLean Gallery

The McLean Gallery is located on the second floor of the old wing of the Oliver Wendell Holmes Library. The gallery is the home to Academic Support and the Academy Archives.  In addition, the gallery contains two rooms used for meetings and classes.  The display cases in the Gallery are used for archival exhibits.  One of these exhibits is a photographic biography of Donald H. McLean, for whom the Gallery is named.

Donald McLean, a member of the class of 1928, served on the Board of Trustees of Phillips Academy for many years.  He served both as President of the Board and President of the Alumni Council. In 1959, at the request of Headmaster John Kemper, he headed up the Andover Program. This program was intended to emulate the development of the campus in the twenties and thirties under Cochran. The plan called for renovation or expansion of the OWH Library, George Washington Hall, old dormitories, the ice rink, and the Cochran Chapel. It also proposed to add five new dorms and a new science building. McLean further distinguished himself as one of the signers of the Abbot merger.
